Good Shepherd Hospice
Good Shepherd Hospice employs close to 225 staff members, including nurses,
social workers, chaplains, home health aides, physicians and support staff, as
well as a volunteer core of close to three hundred.
Hospice provides emotional, medical, and spiritual support for people who
are terminally ill. The goal is to improve patients' quality of life by making
them comfortable in their homes. The focus of care is on symptom management rather
than curing the disease. Hospice helps families cope with the care of their ill
family member and acts as an advocate during this time of illness.
Hospice is a philosophy of care, not a specific place. Although Hospice services
may take place in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or an assisted living
residence, care is most often given in the patient's or family member's home.
Currently, the staff and volunteers are caring for up to 400 patients and their
families each day.
